Among skin conditions, eczema is the one with some of the worst symptoms and characteristics, especially when they affect very sensitive body parts like the eyes and the face in general. Eyelid eczema is characterized by a number of symptoms including erythema, scaling, intense itching, burning, cracking and painfulness. The main causes of eczema on the eyelids are allergens and irritants in the atmosphere although other common causes include allergies to chemicals and foods, pollutants and hypersensitivity to environmental changes.A person suffering from eczema on the eyelids may find it irresistible to scratch the itchy eyelids and this will only lead to sores, reddening, more swelling and scaling of the skin. The skin may dry if the patient is an adult, but for children, this condition is associated with watery eyes and headaches. It may be a physical condition but a patient may have other problems from this infection including depression, low self-esteem and sleeplessness.
