Whether you prefer large rugs or carpet in your home - the reality is that you need something to warm up the space if you don’t live in the tropics! I prefer fitted carpet myself, particularly in bedrooms, but that is probably because I hate wearing shoes and usually wander around home summer and winter in bare feet.
ONe thing I can tell you for sure - if you hate housework, or own animals - avoid shaggy rugs - they really pick up the dirt and are hard to clean. I do have some stunning Turkish rugs which I picked up on a trip to that country and they make a beautiful feature.
If you are decorating with rugs you really need to balance the size of the rug with the size of the room - small rugs looks silly and a bit mean in a large space - which really should have rugs of a good size to show off furniture and define areas.
