When the two best teams meet in the La Liga, there is usually something on the line in the Real Madrid vs Barcelona live stream La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu. This time it will be no different as the league title is at stake. There are only two teams vying for the top prize and unsurprisingly, they are the usual suspects from Madrid and the Catalan giants. Recent seasons in Spanish football have seen at least three or four teams who would battle for the chance to be crowned the top club in the land. A two horse race has instead evolved this season. Such a scenario was more prevalent in decades past when the balance of power was greatly skewed in favour of the two largest cities in the country. Such history has also given rise to their rivalry which has been borne of war, politics and human drama.
Real Madrid will recall the humiliation they suffered in the exact fixture last season. In fact, some parallels could be drawn with the situation leading up to this season’s match. The All Whites were in the midst of a stupendous run. There was no stopping Real Madrid as they continued to win one match after another under then manager Juande Ramos. They were also beating teams by large margins that were more like rugby scorelines. This season it is no different. Real Madrid are in first place in the La Liga and have hardly been tested by most teams as their attacking strength has been irresistable. They sit above Barcelona with a superior goal difference. They have signed on big stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema in a bid to reclaim the title from the Catalan capital. Even the manager has been changed to Manuel Pellegrini after the Argentine was lured from Villarreal to lead the club to glory on every count.
Spanish football’s reigning champions are currently Barcelona. The team led by Pep Guardiola reached the pinnacle of success over the past year as they swept to every imaginable trophy in the world. Domestic, regional and international titles were collected in six major tournaments and it was no surprise they were referred to as the best team in the world. The squad has hardly changed since the last year with the only major adition in the form of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Success has not come so readily this season. The domestic title in the La Liga and the Champions League are the only two trophies left that Barcelona can win this season. Yet ask any other club and they would readily swap for the position that the Catalan giants currently find themselves in. To first prove that they are the best in Spain, the Blaugrana would need to retain the league title. It would be an incredible achievement for them to do so in the stadium of their greatest rivals by beating Real Madrid in the El Clasico.
